Havingno phone for maps, payments, streaming, Uber, etc. is a huge deal for many. I also don't tend to take my watch to clubs, swimming, gyms, etc. where I have to keep phone in locker and risk getting it stolen. It's also a great backup to the dead phone battery if you need to get directions or call an Uber. For SE, the difference is only $50.

Thiswill ONLY apply to anyone who has Xfinity Mobile service with a CELLULAR Apple Watch. This is my experience: I have an iPhone 12 mini and a 44mm Aluminum Apple Watch SE with cellular. Both of my devices were purchased through Xfinity Mobile. My wife has an iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 40mm Aluminum Apple Watch SE with cellular.
Well everything was fine until you mention 3+ hour runs. If you’re running that much and utilizing gps on your watch, the battery on the SE or the S7/8 will be a significant limitation. These watches are great, and charging once a day with “normal” use, doesn’t hold up with long runs several times a week (or more).
Series4 Cellular and Series 5 GPS are almost the same price. Series 5 has always on display, compass but rest of the hardware seems to be the same. Always On display is not a major pull for me because I am not looking forward to displaying my health stats in public. Cellular will let me leave my phone at home instead of being tethered to it.
Anew Series 7 can still be found at a much discounted price. Even a new SE first Gen is about $80-100 cheaper than the SE 2. It's a cheap way to determine if an AW is even something you enjoy/need using. It will last you another good 2 years in which time you can decide if an Apple Watch is worth it to spend more money on.
AppleWatch GPS + Cellular I’m looking to purchase an Apple Watch series 6 soon. If I purchase the GPS + cellular option will I be forced to set up the cellular option in order to use it? or is that a choice. I was thinking of getting it just to have the features but I don’t want to set up a cellular plan immediately.
